Why Sharpen a Chainsaw Chain?

Some reasons to sharpen a chainsaw chain:

  • Save money
  • Prevent injury
  • Save time and energy
  • Reduce waste

Save money. It can extend the life of your chainsaw quite a bit. If you’ve been using the same chainsaw chain for a few years, a new chain likely won’t synch up well with the sprocket and bar, shortening the life of chainsaw as the components struggle to mesh during operation. Rotating among two to three chains before they dull, your chainsaw will last longer. Additionally, each time you can sharpen a chain rather than replace it, you save money. The higher quality your chainsaw chain, the more you save with each sharpening.

Prevent injury. A dull or clogged chain is more likely to result in an accident.

Save time and energy. A dull or clogged chain will slow you down and require you to do more of the work.

Reduce waste. Yes, each time you throw a chainsaw chain away, you are creating waste. Getting rid of waste may add to your costs of owning and using a chainsaw.

Why do we at Apache Knife and Tool sharpen chainsaws? We recognize it is an important service for our customers. Our expertise in working with blades, inspecting for damage, and dressing on the bar when requested will provide you with a better experience while you are using your tools.

Chainsaws take a beating, especially here in the Midwest where hardwoods require cutting. Hardwoods will wear out a blade quicker than soft woods. Whether you use your chainsaw seasonally (firewood, special projects) or all the time, we are here to make your tool work better for you.
